BREAKING GLASS: MOSAIC FILLING (IN THE GAPS)

A great introduction to glass mosaics!

Students will design and create their own fine art mosaic piece. Class will focus on the technique of mosaic filling. Using a silver tray as a base and choosing a simple design we will learn the perfect way to make our glass come together in a smooth and professional manner as well learning grouting skills, the best cleaning applications, surfaces suitable for glass mosaic, glass tools, cutting and shaping techniques.

Students will design and create a glass mosaic tray for interior display or use. No experience necessary, beginning and returning students welcome.

BREAKING GLASS: MOSAIC SMALL (WORKS)

Project: Choice of pre-fabricated Shape, focused on patterns

Perfect for students who want to learn the basics of making small functional and decorative mosaic objects!

Students will design and create their own fine art mosaic piece from various shaped objects. Class will focus on designing for cutting glass as well as covering the basics of adhesives, setting on vertical, horizontal and round surfaces as well as grouting and finishing work.

Students will design and create a glass mosaic art piece for interior display or use. No experience necessary, beginning and returning students welcome.

GLASS FUSING EXTRAVAGANZA

Glass fusing is an exciting technique to add to ones repertoire of mosaic and glass skills and, fused pieces look wonderful in a mosaic. Instructor will present the basics of fusing individual tesserae and tiles and art pieces up to 5". Fusing materials such as compatible sheet glass, frits and powders, glass rods, confetti and stringers and even millefiore will be presented.

Students will learn both basic and trickier glass cutting techniques to get started with or further expand their cutting skills with a myriad of glass tools, including scoring tools, breakers, strip cutters, grinders and lens (circle) cutters.

Instructor will present examples of many different effects students can achieve combining different types, colors and qualities of fusible glass, inclusions such as metal, mica and gold and silver leaf and other exciting techniques.

Rigging and hanging mechanisms for decorations and small plaques will be demonstrated as well.

Students take home what they learn and absorb on day one and get to experiment further on the second day, putting even more creative ideas in to action.

Several firings will be required to fire all students' work. Completed work can be picked up within about a 3 to 5 days.
